Details of News Release: On 02-16-2018 at 16:43 hours, Sheriff’s Dispatched received a 911 call from a citizen that had observed subjects sitting in a parked vehicle point a rifle out of the vehicle and fire the weapon towards an open field. The reporting party provided the license plate and description of the vehicle to Sheriff’s Dispatch; and Dispatch broadcast the information to Sheriff patrol units in area. Shortly after the broadcast, Deputies observed the vehicle traveling in the Los Osos area. Due to the nature of the call, and the potential presence of a rifle being inside the vehicle, Sheriff Deputies initiated a high-risk stop. Sheriff’s Deputies ultimately detained three occupants from the vehicle and recovered the rifle. It was quickly determined that the rifle was a BB rifle. It was also determined that two of the occupants had fired the weapon while seated in the vehicle as it was parked at the intersection of Clark Valley Road and Los Osos Valley road.
